Vinyl is a glorious thing to collect, but when your collection gets to the level of Radio France’s, perhaps its time to let a few records find a new home.

According to a report that originally appeared in Trax, Radio France has accumulated more than 1.5 million pieces of vinyl during its 40+ year existence. Now, as the company works on digitizing its records, comes word that 5,000 of them will be auctioned off on June 19 at its Maison de la Radio headquarters.

From what’s been said, what’s being sold will not necessarily be vinyl more worthy of a scrap heap than a turntable.

“This is not a dead collection. It is alive and well, is used every day, and is affiliated to a music platform that allows its distribution,” explains Marc Maret, Deputy Director of Documentation and Head of the Radio France discography. “An [eclectic] selection has been present since [the station] started at in the ’60s, but we prefer no style. Jazz, classical, rock also have their place in this sale.”

In addition to the June auction, it’s believed that Radio France will have further vinyl sell-offs down the road

Time to book a flight! We hear France is glorious in June!
