R.E.M. to Release Early Era 7″ Box Set
R.E.M. may be long gone by now, but like many bands of their stature there is still a vault of goodies to give to fans. And from the sounds of it, this one’s going to be a beauty!
On December 9, Universal Music will release 7IN – 83-88, a box set featuring the 11 singles R.E.M. released from 1983-1988 through I.R.S. Records. The collection will include 11, 7” pieces of vinyl, along with replicated original picture sleeve art.
The package includes a pair of singles that were previously only available in the UK: “Finest Worksong / “Time After Time” (live), as well as the double-pack single for “Wendell Gee,” with “Crazy,” “Ages of You,” and “Burning Down.”
Also featured is a pair of R.E.M.’s undisputed hits “The One I Love” and “It’s the End of the World As We Know it (And I Feel Fine).”
“Popular music’s modern-day evolution can be traced in step with R.E.M.’s ascent and reign as one of music’s most creative and influential bands,” reads a statement from Universal. “Explore the history that leads back to Athens. These are the documents.”
