One of the best rock bands to emerge out of Toronto in recent memory, PUP, have been forced to pull out of it’s remaining 2015 tour dates due to a health issue that’s fallen upon vocalist Stefan Babcock.

In addition to revealing that he hasn’t been well since July, Babcock confirmed that PUP will release its highly anticipated sophomore album in 2016. Here’s Babcock’s full statement:

“We have some unfortunate news. Due to strict doctor’s orders, PUP will have to drop off the remaining 5 shows with MoBo/Jeff/TMP.

“I (Stefan) have had health problems since July. On the very first day of this 7-week tour, I got a pretty crappy diagnosis. Rather than cancelling the whole tour, I battled through the next 27 shows before my body gave in.

“Today, I was able to see my doctor again. Amongst other problems, it seems that one of my vocal cords has sustained pretty aggressive haemorrhaging (check out the gnarly pic!!!). I’m told that if I continue to play shows this week, I could face permanent vocal damage. Which could easily mean the end of PUP. With rest, I’m expected to make a full recovery in the next 2-3 weeks. The decision seems obvious to me.

“Canceling shows is not something I, or any of us, take lightly. Until very recently, we’d never cancelled a show for health reasons. We’ve battled through fevers of 104.

pup Stomach Ulcers. Sprained wrists and ankles. Food Poisoning. You name it. We’ve toured non-stop for almost 2 years now without cancelling anything. And now, my body is saying ‘time for a break.’

“I’m really sorry for any disappointed fans. I truly apologize, and hope we can make it up to you. In the meantime, the awesome Sorority Noise will take our slot for the remaining 5 shows.

“Despite everything, this tour has been incredible. Getting to play every night with 3 of my favourite bands has been a dream: MOBO, JEFF, and TMP, thank you for your understanding and friendship. You’re all wonderful and talented human beings.

“I’m going to rest up. And in 2016, PUP is going to release a new record, and tour the world like crazy, and play a billion shows. Just like we’ve always done. I can’t wait. I’ll see you all then. In the meantime, go watch 4 ridiculously good bands slay the rest of this tour.”
