Petition to Get GWAR in Mortal Kombat is Online
If there was any band that should find a spot in one of the most popular video game franchises of all-time, it’s GWAR. At the time of this writing, 15,000 fans have agreed, signing a petition with the hopes of getting late GWAR leader Oderus Urungus (aka Dave Brockie) immortalized in the forthcoming Mortal Kombat X game.
Launched on The Petition Site by obvious GWAR and video game enthusiast, Boston Brand, the goal is to gain 16,000 digital signatures to draw the attention of Mortal Kombat’s backbone, NetherRealm studios.
“Oderus was as hilarious as he was viscous, and also one of the most colorful and creative characters not only in rock history, but also history in general,” reads a statement upon the petition page. “Though his music will live on, what better way would there be to further immortalize (toasty) Oderus Urungus then to have him be a playable character on Mortal Kombat X.”
Urungus passed away last March as the result of a drug overdose. As part of the annual GWAR B-Q festivities in August, his unmistakable costume was sent off to sea upon a Viking ship that was set aflame by a lit arrow shot into it.
In an interview with Riffyou.com, one GWAR’s new leaders, Blóthar, commented on how he landed in the band.
“Well, at one minute I was out fucking a Moon Moose – I wear that creature’s hide on my back and shoulders – and I was successful,” explained Blóthar. “Then I laid down to take a nap and the next thing I knew, I was walking out on stage in front of 10,000 pre-pubescent boys with chlamydia. I didn’t know what to do, so naturally I started singing the songs of GWAR. Some of [the band] wondered how I knew their songs, but every Scumdog knows the songs of GWAR.”
