Against Me! Performing Free Gig at Toronto’s WorldPride
Against Me! has confirmed that it’ll take part in the Trans* Pride March Post-March Showcase at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square as part of the city’s WorldPride festival.
The Friday, June 27 show, which also features support from Crackpuppy and The Cliks, will begin at 8:30pm (depending on when the march reaches the square).
“WorldPride 2014 Toronto, presented by Pride Toronto, is shaping up to be one of the biggest international events of our times,” reads a statement upon the event’s official website. “These ten days of queer celebration will turn streets into parades, parks into parties and strangers into friends. Come out and meet the people from around the world expected to gather downtown and in neighbourhoods right across the city.”
In March 2012, Against Me! frontperson Tom Gabel revealed to Rolling Stone that he had spent most of his life dealing with gender dysphoria, and that he was transitioning into living life as a woman. Now known as Laura Jane Grace, the singer has led herself and the band into brand new, brave territory with their 2014 album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues.
“There was a time of figuring things out – obviously,” said Against Me! guitarist James Bowman in a January 2014 interview with Riffyou.com. “[Laura’s] been figuring out things for herself too. It was a ‘take it as it goes’ type of situation. There was never a point where she was too careless. It was a comfortable [process] of ‘what should we do,’ and it evolved from there.”
