“Nice Try”: Tool Responds to U2’s Record Store Day Snafu

One of the most hilarious moments to come out of the sales-shattering day of Record Store Day tool-u22015 was when a number of shoppers mistakenly received Tool’s Opiate EP inside a U2 Songs of Innocence sleeve, instead of that album. Whoops!

While U2 is likely too busy wiping egg off of its faces to comment on the matter, Tool has taken a different approach by poking the Bono bear:

“NICE FREAKIN’ TRY, U2…,” reads a statement by the band on its official Tool Facebook page. “Some very lucky people who purchased U2’s Songs Of Innocence during a recent record store release found instead a copy of Tool’s 1992 Opiate EP inside. As I mentioned on www.toolband.com, it kind of makes you believe in mysterious higher powers doesn’t it…”

Despite the issue, U2’s Record Store Day edition of Songs of Innocence was the 22nd-highest selling album of the day.

Tool’s Opiate was released back in 1992 and eventually reissued in 2013 with a number of bonus features. A U2 EP wasn’t one of them.
