Iggy Pop Was Recently a Nude Model
As exciting as it is to see Iggy Pop on the verge of releasing his new album Post Pop Depression on March 18, some may be even more excited to learn that the godfather of punk rock recently served as a nude model.
According to a report from Pitchfork, Pop stripped down on February 21 for a ‘life drawing class’ at the New York Academy of the Arts. British artist Jeremy Deller and the Brooklyn Museum are those we can applaud for making this a thing.
In all, 21 artists aged 19-80 illustrated the buck naked Pop, and will have their works showcased this fall as part of a proper exhibit housed by, you guessed it, the Brooklyn Museum. The ‘Iggy Pop Life Class’ exhibit will then go on tour.
“The life class is a special place in which to scrutinize the human form,” explains Deller. “As the bedrock of art education and art history, it is still the best way to understand the body. For me it makes perfect sense for Iggy Pop to be the subject of a life class; his body is central to an understanding of rock music and its place within American culture. His body has witnessed much and should be documented.”
