Dave Grohl Helping UK Metal Band Battle Noise Restrictions
Recently, Black Leaves of Envy – a teenage metal band from Cornwall, England – appealed to Dave Grohl for assistance after their city council levied ridiculous noise-related rules upon them.
According to reports, the band – who practices in a garage – were asked to keep their volume down to 30-40 decibels, which, yes, is as low as it sounds and not at all viable for any emerging metal band. Because of such a restriction, Black Leaves of envy have been unable to practice for about three months.
During an interview with The Plymouth Herald, the aspiring musicians spoke about Grohl’s influence on how they approach music and mentioned that a letter was sent to him in hopes that the Foo Fighters leader could help their cause.
With Grohl being a great dude and all, he has subsequently written a letter on behalf of Black a Leaves of Envy, to the attention of Cornwall Council. He also shared the letter upon the Foo Fighters’ social media feeds and directed bands in a similar predicament to a tutorial on how to sound proof a rehearsal space.
Of the 30-40 decibel level, Grohl commented that is “approximately the level of a dishwasher at 15 meters distance. He also went on to explain the importance of young bands being able to practice in their garages and the importance of young people being creative and using music as an outlet.
