Gord Downie & The Sadies Releasing Debut Album in April
Gord Downie, The Sadies, and The Conquering Sun will release their Self-Titled debut album on April 15 through Arts & Crafts. The project’s lead single, “Crater,” is a driving rocker, and can be heard here.
Described as “ten songs of visceral punk rock exultation,” and “a spirited half-hour exploration of the darkness surrounding daylight,” this album can be pre-ordered today through the band’s official website. Those who make that commitment now, will receive a free download of “Crater.”
The Sadies and Downie, frontman for The Tragically Hip, first collaborated in 2006 on a benefit album for Lake Ontario Waterkeepers, and have “sculpted the album over the course of the [last] seven years.”
“When Sadie and Gord performed together for CBC’s FUSE a while back, we chose to cover the songs ‘Search and Destroy’ by The Stooges and ‘I Have Always Been Here Before’ by Roky Erickson, among others,” says Dallas Good, frontman of The Sadies. “This record came about through friendship, the unity of mutual taste and disdain, and a desire to pursue a sound of our own.”
“Just before our first-ever show – delightfully miscast middle-of-the-day on a country festival – we were waiting in the wings shaking, thinking ‘we might actually get the hook here’,” recalls Downie. “I yelled to everyone over the din, ‘We’re nervous because it means something!’ Expectation is easy. A challenge is what all artists crave.”
The album’s track list is as follows:
1. “Crater”
2. “The Conquering Sun”
3. “Los Angeles Times”
4. “One Good Fast Job”
5. “It Didn’t Start To Break My Heart Until This Afternoon”
