Beating Up Jay-Z Has its Perks: Just Ask Solange
Apparently, roughing up Jay-Z in an elevator is good for business – just ask Solange Knowles, the sister of Hova’s wife, Beyonce.
On May 14, the world was treated to a muted, black and white elevator surveillance video showing the trio involved in a wee bit of a skirmish. While it remains unclear what provoked the battle, what we were able to see was a very angry Solange kicking and swinging at Jay-Z before being physically restrained by a bodyguard. Beyonce, who is usually moving or shaking something, stood idly by and watched the scene unfold. Perhaps, she was actually helping her sister out.
According to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ending May 18, Solange’s digital album sales increased 233% immediately following the incident. To put that number into perspective, that week her digital sales hit 2,000, compared to 600 the week prior.
All press is good press I guess.
