The White Stripes Releasing Amazonian LP Package

For the 23rd edition of the Third Man Records Vault subscription package, fans of everything Jack White will be treated to a WhiteStripesVault23blood red, live, double LP by The White Stripes titled Under Amazonian Lights.

The concert was filmed on June 1, 2005 at the Teatro Amazonas Opera House in Manaus, Brazil and features 23 tracks including “Blue Orchid,” “Hotel Yorba,” “Fell In Love with a Girl,” Bob Dylan’s “Love Sick,” and Son House’s “Death Letter.”

“Words do not ably describe the beauty of the Teatro Amazonas nor the furor riled up by the White Stripes appearance. Not only was there fear that the amplification of the band would cause the plaster in the building to crack and possible fall and injure attendees, but out of custom/fear/lord-knows-what the crowd remained seated until being explicitly asked to stand from the stage by Jack White himself,” reads a statement by Third Man Records. “If that wasn’t enough, during the show Jack and Meg ventured outside the venue to play an entirely unamplified version of ‘We Are Going to Be Friends’ for the assembled multitude of fans unable to purchase tickets and watching the performance via closed-circuit feed. The resultant melee was arguably a riot and was lovingly captured by the film crew documenting that evening’s importance. All together what it makes is one of the best true rock and roll moments of the past decade. Heck, Jack White even got married that day.”

Since this is a Vault release, of course there is a ton of sweet extras. In this case, fans are treated to a 7” single that features White performing “Let You Down” (a track that eventually morphed into “The Nurse”), as well as the B-side “Ain’t No Sweeter Than Rita Blues.”

Also, there’s a DVD of the performance, a silk-screened poster of The White Stripes with hidden glow in the dark graphics, freshly designed postcards, plus an enameled pin with a death head monkey design. All of this comes in a soft touch, telescoping box.

Non-Vault members have until January 31 to sign-up for this release.

Yesterday, it was announced that Jack White will serve as one of Coachella’s headlining acts.
