Weezer Wished Bigger Things for “El Scorcho”
As Weezer continue to participate in a Facebook Q&A with fans, frontman Rivers Cuomo was asked “which song do you wish would have been a huge Weezer single?”
Without much, if any hesitation, Cuomo said “El Scorcho” the first single off of 1996 at-the-time-maligned Pinkerton album.
“I’d have to say ‘El Scorcho,’” offered Cuomo. “I think the course of Weezer history could be totally different if radio stations had given that song a chance and got behind it, played it a lot until audiences got used to it. I think we would be living in an alternate universe. But, I like this universe, so who am I to say?”
While not Weezer’s most commercially viable album, Pinkerton has since become the album in which many of the band’s die-hard fans would list as its best. With “The Good Life,” “Pink Triangle,” “Across the Sea,” and “Tired of Sex,” it’s damn hard to argue.
Earlier this week, Cuomo was asked how often he gets recognized in public. Here’s what he had to say.
