Weekend Roundup: Morrissey Curates Ramones; Arcade Fire Get a Ramone
The Weekend Roundup takes a look at some of the important, interesting, cool, or funny happenings that occurred, well, over the weekend. If you have any tips or suggestions, feel free to contact us at editor@riffyou.com.
Arcade Fire sedate crowd with Marky Ramone
On Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, Arcade Fire’s continually triumphant Reflektor tour put another notch into its belt, as Ramones drummer Marky Ramone joined the band for spirited renditions of “I Don’t Wanna Go Down to the Basement,” and “I Wanna Be Sedated.” Words can’t properly define the awesomeness, so watch it here instead:
Bitching be damned, Morrissey is curating a Ramones hits collection
Morrissey has apparently taken a breather from his war with the music business to curate a Ramones greatest hits package. Yeah, that seems strange to us as well. No less, here is the statement that was published on True-to-You.net: “Morrissey has compiled the track-listing for the forthcoming Best of the Ramones CD/LP which is due for release by Sire-Rhino. Morrissey has also chosen the sleeve image (below). Morrissey is thankful to the Ramones management for this invitation.” [Click here to win Morrissey’s latest album, World Peace is None of Your Business.]
Jack White plays through the black and blue
After his Friday night gig at San Francisco’s the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, a photo of Jack White’s horrific looking ankle appeared on the Third Man Records Instagram account. Apparently, White had severely sprained his ankle during the performance, and was advised by his team to call off the rest of his tour. White refused to get off his feet, and continued with the as-planned second show in San Fran. White has six more gigs to battle through before a supposed two-week break in touring. Let’s just hope a different type of break doesn’t happen first.
Suge Knight shot six times at Chris Brown party
Trouble always seems to find one-time hip-hop mogul Suge Knight and [insert your adjective here] performer Chris Brown. On early Sunday morning at a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by Brown at the 10ak nightclub in West Hollywood, gunfire broke out and Knight was struck six times. He is expected to fully recover, but his family notes that he has lost a lot of blood and is resting in hospital. Knight – who infamously ran Death Row Records back in the day – was also shot at a VMA party back in 2005. Seems as though he has a few enemies out there.
Henry Rollins says he’s sorry
After penning a much-discussed op-ed for L.A. Weekly called, Fuck Suicide, Henry Rollins has issued an apology. In the original article, he took issue with the suicide of Robin Williams, and went on to explain that suicide reduces how an artist’s work feels to him after the fact…among other things. In the apology, Rollins owns up to his insensitivity and realizes how shortsighted some of his opinions were. Too soon? Yes, Henry. Too soon.
