Watch the New Stars Video for “No One is Lost”
In the “No One is Lost” video from Stars, the Montreal alt-pop collective attempts to make sense of the band’s mortality and each member’s future.. As opposed to doing this in a traditional, deeply scripted sense, Stars band members candidly discuss that subject during various parts of the clip.
But, it’s not all doom and gloom here, as the video is set within Mexico and features enthralling performance shots of the band.
“This record’s called No One Is Lost because that is a fucking lie,” explains Stars singer Torquil Campbell. “We are all lost, we are all going to lose this game and, as you get older, you lose people more and more … It’s easy to hate, because you never have to let go of anything. It takes guts to be gentle and kind. That’s Stars’ ethos: this life is very heartbreaking and sad… so let’s get completely fucking arseholed and listen to some Dionne Warwick.”
“We don’t like videos … so we decided to make a film instead,” continued Campbell. “Our little movie is about time, and how fast it passes, and whether you should keep doing what you do until you die, or try something else before it’s too late. You will see some lovely footage of Mexico City, a couple of semi-hilarious/semi-depressing conversations, and Amy channeling Meryl Streep … and then the lights go down, the music starts, and we’re all together again. No one, as far we are concerned, is lost. Until they are.”
