Watch Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” Covered on Banjo
Banjo Guy Ollie is celebrating his first year of banjo-strumming madness on YouTube with a cover of the Metallica classic, “Enter Sandman.” Adding a mandolin and some percussion into the mix, this countrified solo rendition of one of metal music’s most revered songs, Ollie has certainly upped his game.
Up until this point, most of Ollie’s banjo adventures had come in the form of re-interpreting music from various video games. In the video’s description, Ollie states that this is the first of many tributes he’ll play to his favourite songs from the ’80s and ’90s. If he is taking any requests, we’d like to see/hear Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills.” Please and thank you.
Recently, a pair of British authors suggested that Metallica – who will be one of the headliners at this year’s Lollapalooza – have lost a bunch of money over the years thanks to ambitious endeavours that didn’t quite work out.
They theorized: “Well, over the past five years Metallica have embarked upon a variety of vanity projects that haven’t exactly brought home the bacon. By their own admission, the two stagings of the Orion festival were disastrous financially, and the shambles that was the Through The Never movie cost $32 million and will only recoup a fraction of that amount. Factor in HQ staff salaries, crew retainers and assorted running costs associated with maintaining an entertainment corporation and you can easily understand why the band – of necessity now rather than by choice – are driven to tour Europe every summer. No one is going to shed any tears upon hearing Metallica pleading poverty, but over the past decade their margins will undoubtedly have taken a hammering.”
