Watch Green Day Return with First Show in a Year
This weekend, Green Day will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Ahead of the special event, the trio took to the stage for the first time in a year for a gig at the city’s House of Blues.
Ahead of the 24-song hit-filled Green Day performance, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt opened up the night with a surprise opening set as Sweet Children (the band’s original moniker) alongside original drummer John Kiffmeyer.
Eventually, Tre Cool, Armstrong and Dirnt got down to business with a Green Day gig that featured “Basket Case,” “Geek Stink Breath,” and “Jesus of Suburbia.” At one point, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong joined the fray so that he and Green Day could rip through a cover of Operation Ivy’s “Knowledge,” before transitioning into Rancid’s “Radio.” After a few other tracks, Armstrong returned for the set closer, “Minority.”
