Watch Foo Fighters Play “Everlong” at Crowd-Funded Show
Thanks to an ambitious and impassioned crowd-funding initiative kick started by Andrew Goldin and made a reality by a number of likeminded citizens and businesses of Richmond, VA, Foo Fighters played their first show in the city since 1998.
In all, $70,000 was raised, essentially making this a $50 ticket price for the 1,400 who filled The National last night.
During a break between songs last night, Dave Grohl took a moment to share with the crowd the magnitude of this show for him.
“I’ve been a musician for a long time,” said Grohl. “I’ve played a lot of shows. But I’ve never played a show like this before. So here’s how I look at it: being that this is a very special situation, tonight, we’ll perform a very special program…for you.”
Then with Grohl’s tongue firmly planted in-cheek, he continued: “That means tonight, we’ll play a bunch of super-duper old stuff. And, then we’ll also play those big hits that keep the heat on in the mansion back in Los Angeles. My pool guy is fucking expensive.”
Of course, an abundance of smartphones could be seen in the crowd capturing this rare Foo Fighters club gig, so there’s some footage already out there. Here is a clip of the band ripping through “Everlong.” The recording cuts in as the song heads toward its first chorus, but still captures the celebratory mood of the night.
