U2 Fans “boo” Woman Who Helped Bono After Cycling Crash
In November, Bono suffered some gruesome injuries after crashing his bike in New York ahead of U2’s (eventually cancelled) week-long residency at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Last night during yet another U2 gig at Madison Square Garden in NYC, Bono introduced the crowd to the first responders who helped him out that fateful day.
“I am here today because some people, when I crashed my bike here in the city, a beautiful girl made a phone call to 911. She’s from Denver, but she’s here tonight. And so is Engine 44, the firefighters that picked me up off the ground,” said Bono, according to The Associated Press.
Bono then handed the microphone to Alyssa, who promptly corrected the singer, noting that she’s from D.C., not Denver. After that gained some laughs, Alyssa made an enemy out of New York.
Said Alyssa: “Here’s what happened: I was running in Central Park, there was an accident, obviously I had to stop and help because I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia, where people are nice.”
The Associated Post explained that comment inspired a chorus of boos from the crowd, as Alyssa tried to finish her story.
For a Virginian, that wasn’t very nice.
