Tokyo Police Club Releasing “Forcefield” on March 25
Last week, Tokyo Police Club got all mysterious on fans by providing them with a clue-free word search that featured song titles from their forthcoming album Forcefield. Today, the group is being far more transparent by announcing that their first full-length album since 2010’s astounding Champ will be released through Dine Alone Records in Canada on March 25. Oh, and the track names/word search answers have been revealed!
Forcefield can be pre-ordered through iTunes beginning January 14, while the album’s lead single “Hot Tonight,” is now streaming at Pitchfork.
“Since writing started for Forcefield in mid-2011 there have been so many trends and every kind of ‘wave.’ We saw them all come and disappear or change into something broader. It left us wanting to make something that would last,” explained David Monks, TPC’s bassist and vocalist. He also co-produced this album with Doug Boehm.
“We ended up re-discovering energy and guitars and simple, direct songs,” he continued. “There was certainly a lot of pressure to take the music somewhere new and there were lots of opinions about how to do that, but in the end we blocked all that out and followed our instincts. I think that’s what Forcefield is—it doesn’t matter what else is going on out there, the music just has to be honest and have a real feeling to it.”
Here’s the tracklist:
1. “Argentina (Parts I, II, III)”
2. “Hot Tonight”
3. “Miserable”
4. “Gonna Be Ready”
5. “Beaches”
6. “Toy Guns”
