Tim Armstrong of Rancid Gets Art Exhibit in LA
The mighty leader of Rancid, Tim Armstrong, will present his Avenues & Alleyways art exhibit at Los Angeles’ SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS gallery. The punker’s debut solo art show will run from January 24 to February 22.
The exhibit will feature drawings, paintings, watercolours, as well as mixed media works on found materials by the musician.
“The range in medium, size, and subject matter provide a well-rounded presentation of Armstrong’s honest and unrefined artistic charm,” reads a statement issued by Epitaph Records. “The imagery includes figures in Armstrong’s life, tools of his trade, album covers for deceased musicians, and poetic ruminations scrawled across simple line drawings.”
On opening night, one of Armstrong’s side projects, Tim Timebomb and Friends will perform. What’s more, a limited edition box set containing 45 screen prints by Armstrong (modeled after the 7” 45 album format) will be up for grabs. Each print will be signed and numbered by Armstrong and with only 100 box sets available, there is a limit of one copy per household.
“Tim Armstrong’s art has a visceral lyricism and immediacy that screams “if you feel it in your guts…express it with your hands!” The D.I.Y. punk ethos of honesty and emphasis on raw instinct that is so integral to Tim’s music is clearly evident in his tremendous body of gestural and poetic visual art,” said Shepard Fairey, a Co-Founder of SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS. “I was amazed by the quality and diversity within Tim’s “Tim Timebomb” project for which he created a song and piece of art each day for a year. If Tim’s drive and proliferation in multiple mediums don’t inspire you to get off your ass, nothing will!”
