This Time, Heroin Takes GWAR’s Dave Brockie
According to the Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office, GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus) died of an accidental heroin overdose. Brockie was found dead, at his home, by a bandmate on March 23.
Richmond news outlet WTVR previously reported that police had found evidence of heroin use while on the scene. It also claimed that friends of Brockie believed that his marijuana use led to experimentation with harder drugs.
Since Brockie’s passing, GWAR has launched the Dave Brockie Foundation as a way to promote “music, images, letters and performances in the arts.” The band will also go forth with its annual GWAR-B-Q in August, and has announced its plan to open GWARbar, a restaurant designed to serve “gourmet junk food.”
Ah heroin, you son of a bitch. You never seem to lose your popularity, do you?
