The Killers Frontman Releasing “Relentless” Solo Album
Brandon Flowers of The Killers has rarely been insecure about his musical dealings, so it shouldn’t be surprising to read his thoughts on The Desired Effect, his first solo album in five years.
“I’m not even going to lie – this record, man, it’s relentless. “I’m not afraid to say it,” noted Flowers in a new interview with Rolling Stone. “On the first record, I was holding things back. “I’m not holding back on this record. I just want to write the best thing I can and put it out right now.”
The Desired Effect, which features the boasting ’80s-feeling single “Can’t Deny My Love,” is said to feature more pop influences than what would be found on an album by The Killers.
“I want to tell the truth,” added Flowers. “And the truth is, sometimes I love pop songs — I respect the craft and the history of that. But I also love telling stories and applying my experiences and observations. You hit a home run when those worlds can all work together.”
Speaking of The Killers, Flowers confessed to Rolling Stone that the band’s 2012 album Battle Born “wasn’t a huge success,” but that he and his Las Vegas mates still felt as if they were in top form.
“I felt like we were making a great rock record and that it would stand for something,” said Flowers of Battle Born. “It didn’t work. But it was also fine that it didn’t work — the gigs were the best they’ve ever been. And I just kept going. I feel like I have a job to do.”
