Teenage Kicks Bid Adieu with Weezer & Original Lineup Shows
After releasing their debut piss-and-vinegar-filled full-length Spoils of Youth in April 2014, Toronto rock act Teenage Kicks are saying goodbye. Member Peter van Helvoort made the revelation earlier this week on the band’s official Facebook page.
To say goodbye, Teenage Kicks have booked a pair of farewell gigs at one of their hometown’s most prolific clubs, The Horseshoe Tavern. On April 11, the band will not rely on their own material, instead they’ll be covering Weezer’s Pinkerton album from front-to-back. Meanwhile on May 23, the band’s original lineup will re-form so that fans can relive “all the hits.”
Tickets for both shows will be available on Thursday, February 5 for $10.
Here’s a chunk of van Helvoort’s statement:
“I’m sad to announce that as of today Jeff and I will no longer be continuing Teenage Kicks. Enough bands have broken up recently that I don’t need to bore you with the semantics of the music industry or the hardships of being a musician in 2015, so we’ll skip past that. Just know that we tried incredibly hard to make this work, and to those who have supported us over the last five years we thank you one hundred times over. We never wandered from who we are or what we wanted this band to be, so in that we were successful. We made the record we wanted to make, and in doing so we bucked the trends. You can always trust that we’ll stay true. I’ll keep playing music, and so will Jeff, it’s just going to be in a different vehicle. We’ve gotten to do some incredible things in this band and for all of that we’re incredibly thankful. I’m going to be 30 in a couple of months, which means I’ve been at this for 15 years and with any luck I’ll be at it for 15 more.”
