In an era where music is available on as many formats as we have fingers on one hand, it’s still amazing to think that a Rotten Singingcommittee still has to be in place to “preserve” and “celebrate” certain albums and songs.

Well, this is part of what The Recording Academy does and this week the organization inducted 27 recordings into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Recordings being honoured as part of the 2015 induction year include The Sex Pistols’ triumphant debut, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols; Neil Young’s spellbinding Harvest; and Alice Cooper’s gritty School’s Out.

“With recordings dating as early as 1909 through the late ’80s, this year’s Grammy Hall Of Fame entries not only represent a diverse collection of influential and historically significant recordings but also reflect the changing climate of music through the decades,” said Neil Portnow, President and CEO of The Recording Academy. “These memorable, inspiring and iconic recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog — knowing that they have become a part of our musical, social, and cultural history.”

Also inducted this year are selections by Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Kraftwerk, and more.

To have a recording eligible for this honour, it must be at least 25-years-old and “exhibit qualitative or historical significance.”That is decided by a special committee comprised of members from the music industry.

Yesterday, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2015 inductees, a class that consists of Green Day, Lou Reed, as well as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts.
