Scott Weiland Praises Jack White, Trashes Meg White

For a recent feature in Esquire, former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland 2015 Sundance Film Festival Portraits - Day 2was asked to list his 10 favourite bands.

Not surprisingly, groups like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Clash and David Bowie made the list, but so did a more modern rocker: Jack White. However, even as Weiland heavily praised White, he also managed to take a random swipe at drummer of The White Stripes, Meg White.

“I remember the White Stripes made such a splash, and at first I couldn’t really wrap my head around a singer who played guitar and a drummer that was as bad as Meg [White]. It took a little while for me to understand and see how talented Jack was as a guitar player and songwriter. Basically, he’s got the Midas touch. Everything he does turns to gold. Blunderbuss is a great album. ‘Missing Pieces,’ ‘Sixteen Saltines,’ ‘Love Interruption,’ and I also love Lazaretto with the actual record, the vinyl with holograms. I mean, what he did with Loretta Lynn revived her career and she ended up winning a Grammy for Best [Country] Album. I was in the lobby of a hotel one time when he was there, but I didn’t go over and introduce myself. When White Stripes came out, I thought it was pretty genius that he was able to keep people so enraptured and unsure of what the situation was – whether they were brother and sister, or if they were married. He did keep it a mystery for quite some time.”

Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts will release their debut album, Blaster, on March 31. You can listen to a sample from the album right here.

Meanwhile, yesterday Third Man Records revealed that The White Stripes 2005 album Get Behind Me Satan, will be released on vinyl (for the first time!) on Record Store Day.
