Refused Announce New Album: Listen to “Elektra” Here
Shortly after releasing The Shape of Punk to Come in 1998, Refused broke up, declaring: “Refused are fucking dead.” Following a quick reunion in 2012, the group disbanded once again.
Now, Refused is alive and well once again with plans to release a new album – Freedom – on June 30 through Epitaph.
“It’s not a reunion anymore. “This is one of the most radical things we’ve ever done, both musically and lyrically,” explains vocalist Dennis Lyxzén.
“Nobody wanted us to fuck with the image of the band who makes a great album and splits up. Nobody wanted us to dilute it. That actually provoked us,” adds drummer David Sandström.
The first song to emerge from Freedom is “Elektra,” a track that was Nick Launay (Gang Of Four, Public Image Ltd., Nick Cave, and Arcade Fire.) It, as well as “366” was co-written by Shellback, a Swedish super-producer that has scored a bunch of number one hits on Billboard with the likes of Taylor Swift and Pink.
A limited edition of Freedom, which features a 28-page hardbound book, poster, plus gold foil stamping on the album cover, is available to pre-order now.
