PUP is Happy to NOT be Playing SXSW

Toronto punk band PUP is not used to being at home very long. Usually, they’re touring in some far away land, or a club reachable by van. However, the guys – Stefan Babcock (vocals, guitar), Nestor Chumak (bass, vocals), Steve Sladkowski (guitar, vocals), and Zack Mykula (drums) – are home right now, seemingly happy to not be in Texas for SXSW.

“One of the best parts about not playing SXSW this year is that we won’t have our hotel room given away by an insane hotel employee telling us to get off the premises before he draws a firearm he’s insinuated is behind the desk & then we sleep in a Wal-Mart parking lot,” reads a post on PUP’s official Facebook page. “One of the worst parts about not playing SXSW this year is missing the opportunity to go back to America’s Best Value Inn Austin and poop in their bushes because revenge is best served as a hot steamy pile. Strikes and gutters, y’all.”

PUP recently finished a lengthy Australian tour and will soon get back on the road next week with The Get Up Kids for a run of American shows. In July, PUP will spend an entire month on the VANS Warped Tour.

Last year during a 2014 interview with Riffyou.com, Babcock gave us his goal for PUP’s sophomore album: “It’s going to be heavier than the last one. What we’re trying to do is make it simultaneously weirder and more accessible…that seems rather opposite of each other, but I think it’s an interesting goal to approach the record with.”
