The albums are judged solely by artistic merit, and must have been released between June 1, 2013 and May 31, 2014. An independent jury of music journalists, broadcasters, and bloggers from across Canada determine the Long and Short Lists. From there, 11 jury members are selected to serve on the Grand Jury and pick the year’s winner.

Godspeed You! Black Emper apprehensively took home last year’s top prize.
