Phil Rudd Won’t Play New Zealand Shows with AC/DC
As AC/DC continues to roam the world on its Rock or Bust tour, its longtime drummer Phil Rudd is sitting in New Zealand up to his eyeballs in legal matters. Although AC/DC has confirmed it’ll play that country to close out the year (December 12 at Westpac Stadium in Wellington and December 15 at Western Springs in Auckland), Rudd will not be with the band.
During an interview with Bay of Plenty Times, AC/DC’s tour manager Garry Van Egmond said “Chris Slade will be on drums – he replaced Phil when he left the band some years back and he has been playing in the Rock or Bust tour worldwide.”
He added: “All I can say is that Phill will not be playing in the New Zealand concerts.” Van Egmond also noted that it can’t be confirmed that Rudd is permanently out of the band.
Rudd, who pled guilty to threatening-to-kill and drug possession charges, will be back in court on July 9 for sentencing.
During his legal issues, Rudd has been adamant that he will be a part of AC/DC again, stating: “There’ll be another tour and another and I’ll be on it. It’ll go until we all die. We’ll probably all have to be dead before it stops.”
