Pearl Jam Bassist Helping Build Montana Skatepark
Over the years, Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has been an active supporter of skateboarding, as he’s helped fund the creation of many skateparks throughout his home state of Montana.
Recently, the community of Stevensville, Montana launched a fundraising initiative to help build a new park. They put on bake sales, raffles, and even sold some Valentine’s Day roses. However, after Ament stepped foot on the proposed site this past Friday, he offered to pay for skatepark’s bowl section.
“[Ament] basically gave us permission to shout it from the rooftops. He is behind the project money-wise. He wants to build a bowl unlike anything that’s been seen in Montana before,” explained Raymond Smith, the Co-Chairman of the proposed skatepark during an interview with Ravalli Republic. “He fell in love with the location. He kept looking at the mountains. He said he wanted to skate here.”
Pearl Jam donates $2 from every concert ticket they sell to Vitalogy Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to support community health and environmental initiatives; social change; plus arts and education. Members of Pearl Jam then handpick the causes in which funding is provided to.
