“Ongoing History of New Music” Returning September 7
In what was a surprise to some – including those at Riffyou.com – celebrated music historian and radio personality, Alan Cross, exited Toronto’s upstart Indie88 earlier this summer, and announced that he would be returning to his previous stomping grounds of 102.1 The Edge.
That was July, and as we head toward September, it has been confirmed that Cross’s signature radio documentary program, Ongoing History of New Music, will be re-launched on The Edge. As it did before, the weekly program will consist of artist profiles, and thematic studies of alternative rock.
Episodes will air at 7pm EST on Sundays, with replays happening Mondays at 11pm EST. The first episode, Stop Me if You’ve Heard This One Before, will feature stories about Cross’s “weirdest and most interesting musical encounters.” Stay tuned for that on Sunday, September 7.
To get fans re-acquainted with the series, 102.1 The Edge will broadcast a 12-hour marathon of Ongoing History of New Music on Monday, September 1 from 12pm-12am EST.
Additionally, Cross will take the lead on Adventures in Vinyl, a series that “will profile the recent resurgence of vinyl records in Canada.” These mini-features will air daily at 7:15am, 1:15pm, and 7:15pm EST, beginning September 21.
“I am soooo glad to be back at the Edge and doing Ongoing History of New Music again,” said creator Alan Cross in a prepared statement. “Since 1993, there have been 691 episodes produced and more than 5,000 daily features — and now we can build on that number and continue to chronicle the artists, themes, facts and myths behind today’s music culture. Plus, it’s also very exciting to be creating a new and innovative series for Edge listeners with Adventures in Vinyl.”
