I Mother Earth Singer Releases Single for Suicide Awareness
Singer/songwriter Brian Byrne, best known for being the most recent frontman of ‘90s Canadian rock act I Mother Earth, has released the single “Arizona (I Miss You Most)” as a way to support suicide prevention and awareness group, Collateral Damage.
All proceeds from the single, which can be downloaded on iTunes beginning today through Dine Alone Records, will be put toward the cause.
Collateral Damage was founded by Scott Chisholm, who at the age of 17 lost his father to suicide. Meanwhile, Byrne and his wife Tara co-founded The Old Classy Dog Collective (OCDC), an organization designed “to use music for social change.”
“Last year after we lost another friend, I couldn’t just stand by anymore,” says Byrne. “My hope is that we really can change how we talk about suicide, open up and discuss. No one should ever feel ashamed or lonely in this. It’s all hard enough. Every time someone downloads ‘Arizona (I Miss You Most),’ money is raised. Every time the song plays on the radio or video is seen, the message is heard.”
“The Arizona Project is about sharing stories, starting conversations and healing from our loss to suicide,” adds Chisholm. “The Project also reaches out in an artistic and meaningful way to others who are struggling with thoughts of suicide by showing them it’s okay to reach out. But also, by being part of a collective ‘story’, we break the stigma. It is artists using their gifts to create an opportunity for healing by demonstrating to others that they are not alone”.
