CMW 2014: M.I.A. to Play Exclusive Club Gig in Toronto
If having M.I.A. perform at the 2014 edition of Canadian Music Week (CMW) wasn’t a big enough deal, word now is that the Grammy Award-winning UK hip-hop star will take the stage at the Tattoo Queen West club on Saturday, May 3.
Initially, M.I.A. was slated to play Yonge-Dundas Square (the Times Square of Toronto, if you will) before thousands, but “due to unforeseen logistical issues,” will now perform in front of 400 lucky concertgoers within the cozy confines of the downtown Toronto entertainment district.
Admission to the gig will remain free, but you’ll have to obtain a special wristband to get in. On Wednesday, April 30 at 6pm, 200 wristbands will be handed out at Tattoo Queen West (567 Queen Street West). Then on Thursday, May 1, 200 CMW wristband holders will be granted access to the show via the CMW Concert Lottery.
Do note that the wristbands are non-transferable and that you’ll need to bring valid ID to prove that you’re old enough (19+) to get into the show.
Doors are at 8pm and Swedish MC/producer Elliphant will open the show at 10pm. M.I.A. will arrive at 11pm, officially kick-starting the 2014 edition of CMW.
Canadian Music Week runs from May 6-10 and will feature performances from Tegan and Sara, Ellie Goulding, City and Colour, Kongos, Mastodon, and many more.
Get excited!
