Mark Ronson ‘Proud’ of Biggest Hit “Uptown Funk”
That song you hear in every other light-hearted movie trailer, or in your girlfriend’s car, is also one of the biggest in the world right now: “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson, featuring Bruno Mars.
While it’s overt pop tendencies (i.e. infectious grooves, strong hooks, the presence of Mars) have allowed it to grab the attention of the Top 40 crowd, its ability to bring genuine, old school funk to those who own at least one James Brown record, has allowed it to cross over so prominently. (At least that’s what got Riffyou.com enamored with it.)
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Ronson (who has made music with the likes of Paul McCartney, Amy Winehouse, and Adele), was asked to participate in the publication’s ‘My Life in 10 Songs Feature.’ While discussing “Uptown Funk,” Ronson said that he’s fortunate to be “proud of” his biggest hit.
“Any one of us individually – Bruno, myself, Jeff [Bhasker] – could’ve made a strong record, but I think there’s something really lovely and magical that happens when the three of us are in a room together,” explained Ronson. “I’m not saying that it’s three times better, I’m just saying that it’s like a whole new thing. You always hear people complaining that they weren’t into their biggest hit. I feel pretty lucky that the song that is my biggest hit is something that I am as proud of, and that it’s also something I did with a friend.”
