Lana Del Rey Bailed on a Beach Boy
Brian Wilson, the genius behind The Beach Boys, will release his No Pier Pressure album on April 7 without the voice of Lana Del Rey making an appearance.
Del Rey was expected to appear on “The Last Song,” but in an article with Pitchfork back in January, a representative for Wilson explained that scheduling conflicts resulted in the sultry singer exiting the project. However, in a new interview with Vulture, Wilson was a little less political when asked why Del Rey abandoned ship
“Lana Del Rey, uh, she just canceled out on us,” said Wilson. The Beach Boys great went on to explain that Frank Ocean also fell off the album because “He didn’t want to do the song. He wanted to do rap, so we cancelled him.”
Those who didn’t cancel on No Pier Pressure was contemporary artists like She & Him, Nate Ruess (of fun.), as well as Sebu Simonian (of Capital Cities.)
Beyond this album, Wilson is unsure as to what the future holds. When asked by Vulture if he plans to retire after touring this album, he replied: “It’s possible. I might retire, but I don’t know. Actually, I shouldn’t really say that I’m going to retire. I don’t know yet.”
