Karen O of Yeah Yeahs Yeahs Releasing Debut Solo Album
Karen O, the rambunctious yet quaint frontwoman of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, will release her debut solo album, Crush Songs, on September 9. It will be put out through Cult Records, a label owned by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes.
The album is described as a “collection of lo-fi bedroom records” that came to be between 2006 and 2007.
“When I was 27 I crushed a lot,” says Karen O of the album. “I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”
“So excited, lucky and proud to be involved with such a classic album—I just wanna listen to it all day. Karen is an all-time great,” adds Casablancas.
Fans can pre-order a limited edition deluxe sunburst-coloured vinyl version of the album from Cult Records for $50. Not only is it autographed by Karen O, but it also contains a download card, as well as a custom envelope that contains 15 cards of personal drawings and handwritten lyrics. Being able to pre-order other formats will happen soon.
In addition to Karen O, Cult Records is also the home of Albert Hammond Jr., Cerebral Ballzy, and Har Har Superstar.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their most recent album, Mosquito, in 2013.
