In Business: hmv.ca Now Selling Physical Product
As many entertainment retailers have learned, giving consumers the option to purchase products from home is a shrewd business move. Well, hmv Canada is the latest to jump aboard the trend by making chunks of its music, film, audio accessory, and collectibles inventory available to buy at hmv.ca.
Music fans can now visit the site and search for either new releases, or deep back catalogue selections from their favourite bands, and make a purchase without having to go outside and deal with traffic, weather, or eventual food court regrets.
Once items are placed in the online shopping cart and ready to be bought, a customer can either sign into his or her hmv.ca account, or checkout as a guest, in order to complete an order.
Payments can be made use PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Of course, shipping charges will be applied to each purchase.
What this initiative helps prove is that there is still a demand for the purchase of physical music products from retailers. When Riffyou.com recently asked hmv Canada President and CEO, Nick Williams, if he thought the demise of the physical music format has been exaggerated, he had this to say:
“I certainly think it is. If the labels wanted [physical music products] to die, they could kill it tomorrow,” explained Williams. But I don’t think they do. They realize that consumers want to buy, have and to hold, and own something that’s tangible.”
