Green Day Leader Opening a Guitar Shop

Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong may be on his way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not _3S21943.JPGbefore he stops in Oakland, California to open a guitar shop.

Broken Guitars, as it’ll be known, is the result of a partnership between Armstrong and Green Day associate Bill Schneider. Opening on April 3, the store will display 75 guitars from Armstrong and Schneider’s personal collections.

The duo plan to make guitars affordable for clientele by keeping price tags between $400 and $800, as well as offer amplifiers and full-service repair of instruments.

“We want to be a shop for musicians,” said Schneider in an interview with East Bay Express. “The focus is used American guitars: Gretsch, Fender, and not necessarily just vintage ones.”

Broken Guitars is located at 423 40th St. in Oakland, across the street from 1-2-3-4-GO! Records, a retail shop that features a performance space in the back. Of course, Green Day has played the space numerous times throughout the years.

“I had to go for a walk when I heard the news,” said Armstrong when he heard about Green Day’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. “We’re in incredible company and I’m still trying to make sense of this. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always held something special for me because my heroes were in there. This is a great time for us to sort of reflect and look back with gratitude.”
