Who are you and what do you do?
“We are The Sales, an indie band from Germany. We make indie/garage rock.”
In 100 words or less, tell us how your band has gotten to this point.
“We’ve only played three gigs until now, but we work very hard. Also, we have three tracks thus far, which we recorded in Berlin at a professional recording facility. Even though we only had three days to complete these recordings, they turned out to be really good. “
What is your latest release, and how would you best describe it to someone who hasn’t heard your band?
“It’s not really a release, but two of those recordings we made are on Soundcloud and one of them is available as a free download. One of them is a rough, but a catchy garage/indie tune with a driving beat. The other one is a little steadier and sounds a little more refined. They both have some kind of a vintage/lo-fi sound that fits them pretty well.”
When making an album, which aspect of the process do you put the most time into and why?
“We try to rehearse a lot, so we don’t need so much time for recording. We spend a lot of time in our rehearsing room, working out the details of our songs until they sound the way we want them to sound.”
What is the best part about your band and why?
“We try to combine our different tastes in music to create our own style on the basis of our main influences. So the best part about our band is definitely that our songs are so eclectic.”
What makes your band unique from the rest?
“The vintage equipment we use together with our songs makes our stuff pretty unique. That really stands out.”
How does your band survive the challenges of touring/gigging?
“Lots of coffee and duct tape.”
Would you rather be critically-acclaimed; rich and famous; or an under-the-radar band with a dedicated fan base?
“That’s hard to say. Of course we want to be successful, but we also wouldn’t want to sell out. We would definitely want to be free in what we do, and what we write and play. So, we’d want all the best aspects of those alternatives, actually.”
If you’d have to compare your band to another one out there, living or dead, who would it be and why?
“Our main influences are indie bands, likes The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys, but we have many different influences that play an important role, too. It’s difficult to find a band that exactly matches our sound.”
Which band/musician would you like to share many drinks with? What would you talk about?
The Spice Girls, or wait, Britney Spears, no, David Hasselhoff? No seriously, we can’t tell. We couldn’t agree on a single band so here are everyone’s picks: Royal Republic, James Hetfield, Dan Auerbach The Fast Fives, and The Strokes.”
