Frances Bean Cobain Slams Lana Del Rey for Glamorizing Dying Young
Recently, Lana Del Rey freaked out the Internet by noting in an interview with The Guardian that she wished she were dead already, viewed dying young as glamorous, and name-dropped Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse as heroes of hers.
Since the article was published and the subsequent backlash occurred, Del Rey has struck out against interviewer Tim Jonze, suggesting that his questions were leading and that he just wanted something interesting to write about. Funnily enough, she never denied saying “I wish I was dead already.” Jonze has vigorously defended himself.
Anyways…
One person whose been greatly affected by the death of a young musician is Frances Bean Cobain, who at one and a half years of age lost her father at the age of 27.
On Sunday evening, Cobain took to Twitter to react to what Del Rey had to say.
“The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize,” she explained. “I’ll never know my father because he died young and it becomes a desirable feat because people like you think it’s ‘cool.’ Well, it’s fucking not. Embrace life, because you only get one life. The people you mentioned wasted that life. Don’t be one of those people. You’re too talented to waste it away.”
After the Del Rey army of fans stepped in to defend the Ultraviolence album-maker, Cobain clarified her stance further:
“I’m not attacking anyone,” she replied. “I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.”
Lana Del Rey’s new album, Ultraviolence, came out last week.
