eminem-house-mainEminem’s childhood home has been demolished after a fire caused significant damage to its upper level earlier this month. Located at 19946 Dresden St. in Detroit, MI, the home is featured on the cover of both Marshall Mathers LPs.

The home, which the State of Michigan deemed unsafe after this month’s fire, was built in 1945 and purchased by Eminem’s mother, Deborah Mathers, in 1987 for $19,900. The home had foreclosed in 2001 but was recently put up for auction by the Michigan Land Bank.

Recently, Tennessean Shelly Hazlett, 28, had put in a bid for the house with the hopes of turning it into an Eminem museum. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately for her, the offer she placed didn’t get approved before the latest blaze occurred.

In an interview with Michigan’s MLive before the incident, Hazlett wondered why the world famous rapper wouldn’t take ownership of it: “I don’t understand why Eminem doesn’t buy it. He must still drive by the house from time to time.”

Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 topped the Billboard 200 chart, selling 792,000 copies its first week.
