The CMW Questionnaire: Bend Sinister
As Canadian Music Week (CMW) takes over Toronto this week, we catch up with a number of the festival performers. Here is Matt Rhode of rock act, Bend Sinister, participating in the Riffyou.com CMW questionnaire. Click here to find out when the band is playing.
RY: An event like Canadian Music Week for my band is all about…
“Going to Blue Jays games in between gigs.”
RY: When someone in the audience sees your band for the first time, what do you hope their reaction will be?
“I want it to be a mixture of their brains and undies melting in a state of mystifying happiness.”
RY: What, when and where was the best show you’ve ever played? What made it so awesome?
“We always have the craziest time in Calgary, whether it’s Sled Island, playing after parties, or cramming the Ship and Anchor with as much Rock n’ Roll as it can handle. The fans make us feel like it’s our second home!
RY: What, when and where was the worst/weirdest show you’ve ever played? What made it terrible?
“Let’s go with weirdest as that’s a bit more fun than worst. We recently played a Mansion Party in Acapulco Mexico, where we went speed boating, watched luchador wrestling matches, fireworks blew out of the hosts roof, all while we were playing on top of an infinity pool…life’s tough!
RY: What is the coolest thing fans will be able to find on your merch table?
“Obviously US! Come say hi!”
RY: When on tour, which do you crave the most? (And why?) Your own bed, your own shower, or a homemade meal?
“If it’s between those three options, I’m always going to pick my bed, as it’s like sleeping on a cloud. My puppy, my scooter and sushi are all tied for that one though!”
RY: What is your worst on-tour habit?
“Binge watching ‘Pawn Stars.'”
RY: What is the nerdiest thing about your band that you usually try to keep secret?
“We have a vigorous tournament of Cribbage on the go at any waking moment.”
RY: Which song would you love to cover on-stage, but don’t think you’d be able to pull off?
“‘Jump’ by Van Halen – we are working on it.”
RY: What makes you most proud of your band?
“I’m proud of our band everyday for keeping Rock N Roll alive and better than ever.”
