Bryan Adams Reacts to Ryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69” Cover
Last week, Ryan Adams performed a magical cover of the Bryan Adams classic, “Summer of ’69” during a gig at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. What made this significant, was that almost 13 years ago Ryan – at the same venue – let a heckler have it for requesting “Summer of ’69.” The person was eventually booted out of the show and the story has lived on in infamy ever since.
No less, once Ryan finally took it on last week, one final question remained: Did Bryan hear it?
“Yes, I heard it,” explained the Canadian Adams in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. “Ryan wrote to me to tell me the day before that he was going to do it. I think it was some sort of cathartic release for him to return to that venue and play that song, as you probably know the story there. So I think in some ways, he has been haunted by the song somewhat, which is a shame because it’s a really great song. Anyway, I’m happy he did it. He’s a great artist. And sure I’d sing one of his songs. I’m not sure which one, though.”
