Boston Radio Bans Seattle Music Ahead of Super Bowl
As the New England Patriots get ready for Super XLIX in Arizona, Radio 92.9 Boston’s Alternative, have opted to avoid playing music from the Seattle Seahawks’ hometown. That’s right, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and any other band from that region will be nixed from the station’s playlist.
“From midnight [Tuesday] through February 1st, when New England beats Seattle, we pledge to not play any band that originated in Seattle, Washington,” read a Facebook post by the station. In a separate message, 92.9 declared itself a “Seattle Free Zone.”
Last week, Wisconsin radio station 94.5 The Lake pulled a similar move, hoping that it would help the Green Bay Packers beat the Seahawks in Seattle. The strategy worked for most of the game, until the Packers blew a 16-point lead.
The Seattle Seahawks have shown recently that they are arm-and-arm with the city’s music community. Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder was on the sidelines during the game on Sunday, while Alice In Chains served as the halftime entertainment.
