Watch Billy Talent Detail New Song, “Chasing the Sun”
As Billy Talent draw closer to the November 4 release date of their Hits package, they have opened up about “Chasing the Sun,” a second new song that’ll appear on the album.
Explained today in a clip for the band’s Video Vault series (which you can watch below), “Chasing the Sun” is described by frontman Ben Kowalewicz and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk as a very tough song to compose, seeing as it’s about the passing of someone very close to the group. Although audio of the track hasn’t yet been made available, it’s noted that this offering is nothing like of the songs Billy Talent have made before.
In early September ahead of the band’s performance at Riot Fest Toronto, Solowoniuk explained to Riffyou.com that one of the new songs – which we can now say with much certainty is “Chasing the Sun” – was in fact inspired by the death of his brother.
“My brother passed away two years ago,” confided Solowoniuk. “It was really hard for me…and a difficult time. This song that’s coming out is about me having a hard time losing somebody…anyone who has had a hard time losing somebody close [should relate.]”
He continued: “It was really weird, because six months before my brother died, I was having a conversation with my wife about how I’d never lost anyone close to me before. Ben, Ian, and Jon all saw me go through this difficult time and this song came out of it.”
