You can file this into the ‘I didn’t expect to hear about this today’ section of your brain: acclaimed actor Vincent D’Onofrio has slim-bone-head-voltbecome a spoken word punk rocker that will release an album in 2015.

D’Onofrio has partnered with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and composer Dana Lyn to form Slim Bone Head Volt, a duo that’s described as a “free-form system of Stanislavski mixed with the daring of Sturm und Drang and the broken fourth wall of improvisation; it’s Ionesco and Brecht meets The Last Poets and Tom Waits; a theater-of-the-absurd-in-the-round and unabashed circle in the square times of today.”

Whoa.

According to the tale we’re being told, D’Onofrio and Lyn met as they worked together during an off-Broadway production. Apparently, D’Onofrio often “invited his innermost thoughts into the unsuspecting minds of his contemporaries via that modern day messiah of connection: the text message.”

Donofrio’s texted “transmissions were long, rambling, and raucous, and Lyn, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and composer, fell in love with them,” reads the duo’s bio. “In direct contradiction to the thumb-guided medium’s impermanence, she sought to give the messages new life by pairing them with her own original music and encouraged D’Onofrio to share more.”

With that, Slim Bone Head Volt came to be. Their debut album, Vol. 1, will be released on March 3 via Buddhahug Records.

But, strap yourselves in because you can listen to their lead single, “I’m a Hamster,” right here:
